Journeying back through the ancient texts of the HuaiNanZi, legend tells the tale of the Chinese Goddess NüWa. As the creator of mankind herself, she breathed beauty and life into the world. After a great battle amongst deities that broke the pillars of heaven, it was NüWa who restored them. She melted five coloured stones representing the elements, filling the crack in the sky and saving mankind from devastation. Revered as the protector of life, the legendary figure of NüWa continues to be a favourite motif of Chinese artists.
